Maintaining an old car is not an easy task. There are times that you want to give up your car due to its overwhelming problems. From a simple oil leaks to engine overheating—whatever the cause is—high mileage cars require more attention and needs proper maintenance to extend their life span.



Trust me, I learned this the hard way. Thanks to Pilipinas Shell for organizing a one-day activity for the group of motoring scribes to test their latest product—the new Shell Helix High Mileage. Held at the C5 Shell E. Rodriguez Jr Avenue, each participants are given a Special “FREE Change Oil” treatment for their 3 to 15 year old cars.

The main objective of the event is for us to experience Shell Helix High Mileage 2 variants of engine oil—the Shell Helix High Mileage 10W-40 (designed for gasoline engines); and the Shell Helix High Mileage 15W-50 (designed for diesel engines). According to Shell, the new High Mileage engine oil is formulated with Flexi-Molecule technology that provides protection to engines with more than 100,000 kilometers mileage.

To test how effective this technology, I decided to bring my 4-year old diesel-fed Toyota Innova. Shell Lubricants Technical Leader DJ Javier explained how the 15W-50 (for diesel engine) will help prevent sludge and the formulation of flexi molecule fight wear and prevents oil leaks.

When asked about their new High Mileage product, Javier stressed out: “There are lot of engine oils that offers different formula, but what makes our product so unique is that we are provide solutions that meet the needs of everyday drivers.”

“The Flexi-Molecule technology constantly adapts to boost protection where your engine needs it most, especially during situations when your engine experiences intense heat and pressure, “ shared Javier.

Meanwhile, Anthony Wee, Brand Manager of Shell Helix, said, “This engine change oil activity is for the media to experience our latest product offering in the market designed for vehicles with high mileage. We developed this engine oil that utilizes synthetic technology specifically formulated to protect high mileage of vehicles.”

“Shell Helix High Mileage is designed to provide up to 40-percent better wear protection, and helps prevent sludge and other damaging deposits for better performance. It also helps prevent leaks and reduces oil burn-off for less top-up,” adds Wee.

SHELL’S RETAIL EXPANSION 

Leo Cabredo, Retail Lubricants Business Development Manager of Shell, said, “We are targeting to accomplished the 1,000-retail network of Shell nationwide which offers a range of quality Shell Fuels and Lubricants, car service centers and convenience stores. Currently, the company has 996 active retail sites and 265 service centers.”

“Shell also aspires to be the leader in community relations. So we partnered with Don Bosco Institute to teach technical-vocational skills offered to retail station crew ,” adds Cabredo.

HIGH MILEAGE PROTECTION 

To provide better performance with high mileage cars, Shell developed two engine oil variants for high mileage cars—the Shell Helix High Mileage 10W-40 (gasoline engines); and the Shell Helix High Mileage 15W-50 (diesel engines)—which both helps and fight the effect of aging in your high mileage car.
