The current Covid-19 pandemic, which hits and paralyzed the global economy, won’t stop the adrenalin and pulse of racing fanatics and gearheads to participate at the recently concluded Phoenix Pulse FV1 Virtual Cup.
Organized by the country’s premier motorsports racing school, Tuason Racing School (TRS), the highly gamified race captured a scene replica of the Laguna Seca racetrack. Andre Varquez and Iñigo Anton were declared champions in the 3rd race, and both drivers showed superb skills in reverse racing grids.
Varquez easily grabbed the top position in Race 3 AM Class, followed by Race 2 champion Julian Colvin Tang in 2nd place, and Patrick Malicsi at 3rd spot. Meanwhile, Varquez, who regained his top position in the AM Class, also set the fastest lap time of 01:34.424.
“I had a good start on the race. I already secured my position at the first corner of the racetrack. I’ve seen that there was a huge pile at the back, so I kept going on. I don’t have to push myself, I just need to retain my consistency. Laguna Seca is super slippery, one mistake, and it will make a huge loss in everyone’s performance,” said Varquez.
In the PRO Class category, Anton, Estefano Rivera and Russel Reyes, all playing it safe due to the slippery and challenging track, started and finished holding on to their spots. Rivera, on the other hand, set the fastest lap time of 01:32.603.
“The track was so difficult and the grip level was so low. So during the race, I got a very keen start and very keen lap. From there on, I just kept the level head and just tried to be very consistent and at the same time try not to commit any mistakes,” explained Anton.
