Meet the all-new Volvo XC40.

It’s the latest subcompact luxury crossover SUV of Swedish premium car brand Volvo. Today, Scandinavian Motors Corporation, the authorized importer of Volvo cars in the country, officially launched the new XC40 to the motoring media and dealers in a magnificent Manila Bay sunset backdrop at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City.

Sharing with the same platform in their 40-series, the new XC40 is the first model of Volvo cars that has new modular small car platform under Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

Outside, the car speaks a lot of its true DNA staying on being a Swedish contemporary SUV without sacrificing anything. One of the best attributes I notice with the XC40 is the high ground clearance and 18-inch alloy wheels which makes the vehicle fit for urban or city driving.

Up front, you’ll be greeted by Volvo’s signature grille that fits nicely to its bumper, which includes vertical chrome bars and an LED headlights. On the side profile, the style is angular with curves that outline car’s silhouette. At the back, the XC40 has an uncluttered rear section with matte silver rear skid plate and dual tailpipes. And i have to admit: the rear of the XC40 is the best angle for this car!

Inside, it’s looks like Volvo engineers focus on reviving its youthful aura, which makes the car more functional and well made. And just like any Volvo cars, it offers effortless blend of form and function. The car center console is equipped with 9-inch touchscreen Sensus infotainment system, a feature familiar to the new generation of Volvo cars. The instrument cluster, on the other hand, are all digital but retained its classic analog gauges.

Power comes from a 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine which can easily provide 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. All are matted to a 8-speed automatic transmission.

For the price, we are expecting the XC40 will reached more than 3-million pesos. We’ll update you the price once Volvo Philippines send it to us.

HERE’S AN UPDATE: Thanks to Volvo Philippines for providing us details of price for the all-new XC40. As promised, the XC40 T5 AWD R-Design is priced at P3,895,000; the XC40 D3 R-Design at P3,495,000; and the XC40 D3 Momentum at P3,350,000.

You can choose from the XC40 variety of colors: Bursting Blue, Onyx Black, Crystal White, Bright Silver, Osmium Gray, and Fusion Red.
