Last Friday, Volkswagen Philippines has officially announced the arrival of its latest lineup for the Philippine market.
The German marque unveiled 5 different cars—the Santana MPI M/T Trendline, Lavida 230 TSI DSG Comfortline, Tiguan 280 TSI DSG Comfortline, Santana GTS MPI A/T Comfortline, and the premium Lamando 280TSI DSG Highline.
According to Volkswagen, the subcompact sedan Santana will be the replacement of their ubiquitous Polo sedan. With a stunning price stag of P686,000, the Santana will directly compete with Japanese top B-segment cars like Toyota Vios, Honda City, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Suzuki Ciaz, to name a few.
Among the cars that launched, the main highlight was the Volkswagen Santana. Equipped with 1.4-liter Multi-Point Injection (MPI) 4-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the Santana has a maximum power output of 90 Ps at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 132 Nm at 3,800 rpm.
The car features electronic power steering, front McPherson Independent Suspension, and rear composite torsion beam semi-independent suspension.
Safety features are also top notch with ISOFIX anchorage points (mounting fixture for two child seats on rear seat bench), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and immobilizer.
“Volkswagen Philippines takes the Filipino car-loving public into a bold, exciting future, yet remaining faithful to the original intent of Volkswagen to offer cars that are accessible to the people, whatever aspirations in life they might have, however they may be inspired towards their own personal fulfillment,” said Arthur Tan, President and CEO of AC Industrials.
He stressed that the new 5 models would undoubtedly add to the growing heritage of the Volkswagen brand in the Philippines, helping Volkswagen continue to be an integral part of the Filipino culture, crossing over many generations and economic classes.
