Road safety has been a long time global and national priority. Data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 estimate that 1.35-million lives are lost due to road accidents each year.
In the Philippines, the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System recorded 65,032 accidents with 337 deaths in 2020 in Metro Manila. Though the lockdowns have significantly reduced the accidents, we dream of much safer roads in our version of the new normal.
This is center in Honda’s vision of Safety for Everyone, we want to protect the safety not only of the drivers or riders, but of all vehicle occupants, pedestrians and everybody on the road. This is why our approach on safety is both from product and educational perspectives.
As strong advocates of road safety, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) became one of the first car brands in the country to offer a suite of driver-assist safety features we now know as Honda SENSING.
Back in 2015, the Honda Legend made its Philippine debut, with the model being a staple of luxury, comfort, and of course, safety all thanks to the inclusion of Honda SENSING. After HCPI began its high-tech safety revolution with the Legend, its flagship sedan was then followed by the launch of the 3rd generation All-New Honda Pilot in 2016 which featured Honda SENSING.
HCPI stayed true and committed to its vision of Safety for Everyone by equipping more models in the country with Honda SENSING. The recent launch of the 11th generation All-New Civic highlights the latest version of Honda SENSING given the usage of a monocular camera while eliminating the radar. Its new camera setup has better recognition and can now measure the distance target of the vehicle or obstacle ahead.
This gives the compact sedan access to the following high-tech safety features: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) – The system now recognizes pedestrians during day and night, bicycles, left / right turn across path, and preceding motorcycles; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW); Auto High-Beam (AHB); and Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN) – New.
Aside from the 11th generation All-New Civic, other Honda models such as the CR-V, Accord, and the new Civic Type R, are equipped with the Honda SENSING giving customers a wider range of options in choosing the perfect Honda vehicle that’ll safely get them through unexpected obstacles on the road.
Aside from Vehicle Technologies, Honda engages different stakeholders in Safety Education programs, such as the Teen Smart Driving and Safety Seminar. Inspired by “Safety for Everyone,” the program aims to strengthen the youth’s consciousness and appreciation for road safety, and deepen their sense of responsibility in how they can help reduce road accidents and fatalities, practical things they can do especially as they near the licensing age, or even as pedestrians and passengers.
Honda’s global safety vision of “Safety for Everyone” is the foundation of technologies and educational programs on safety that contribute to the protection of drivers, passengers, riders, as well as pedestrians, so that everyone can safely and confidently share the roads.
