The American brand Jeep has been an iconic sport utility vehicle of motorists for the past 7 decades. Its legacy continues to live with the recent unveiling of the all-new fifth-generation Jeep Wrangler.

Thanks to its local distributor Auto Nation Group, the company reveals to the Philippine motoring media two variants of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler: the Wrangler Sport and the Wrangler Unlimited Sport.

REFRESHED LOOK

Keeping true to its iconic status, the all-new Wrangler keeps its rugged-yet-distinguished stance while sporting a modern design as seen in the redesigned 7-slot grille, head lamp and square tail lamps among others.

Design-wise, the Wrangler’s profile is built on a sculptural design aesthetic that is immediately recognizable with its angular roofline, muscular fenders, and high stance while keeping its traditional Jeep design cues.

The new exterior design is bold and rugged with a wide and lowered beltline, fitted with larger windows for better outward visibility on the trails and a panoramic view in the open.

TECH-SAVVY INTERIOR

Inside, you’ll noticed an upgrade transformation from the signature Jeep design elements, soft touch high-quality materials, and state-of-the-art technology that make it equal and comparable to luxury SUVs.

Moreover, everything in the driver’s cockpit—from the new steering wheel to the reconfigurable driver cluster—is designed for intuitive use. The center console is built with a third-generation Uconnect system, which features a 5-inch screen display with a customizable drag and drop feature in the menu.

Alongside it is the 3.5-inch instrument cluster that displays reconfigurable information such as media, tire pressure, and speed among others. Some of the niceties includes integrated buttons on the steering wheel control audio, voice, and speed functions, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times.

NEW POWER AND SAFETY

The fifth-gen Wrangler comes with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with Engine Stop-Start (ESS) that provides an outstanding 268-horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. All are matted to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The company also plans to bring the top-graded 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine for purists and gearhead lovers.

“We are introducing a best-in-class 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine on the all-new generation Jeep Wrangler, mated with an 8-speed transmission, as an option to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine which Jeep fans and aficionados have grown to love. The combination of a 2.0-liter engine with an 8-speed transmission offers optimal engine output, improved highway economy, and reduced noise and vibration, giving you a worry-free journey in any adventure, be it in the city or on the most challenging of terrains,” said Vincent Gaviño, Sales and Marketing Head of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM of Auto Nation Group.

Safety features receives a huge upgrade which include blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, parkview rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, electronic stability control and multiple airbags.

With all those bells-and-whistles, let’s go straight to its pricing. This iconic brand is priced at P3.390-million (for the Jeep Wrangler Sport) and P3.590-million (for the top-tier Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport). I don’t know if you’ll agree if this is practical to buy. The truth is, all vehicles offers different selling proposition and value. In the end, if money is not an issue, then the Jeep Wrangler might be a good option as your off-road weekend warrior SUV.
