Every time we hear about a vehicle that loss its braking in a parking lot, we suspect that it is related to Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA).
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) is defined as “unintended, unexpected, high-power accelerations from a stationary position or a very low initial speed accompanied by an apparent loss of braking effectiveness. In a typical scenario, the incident begins at the moment the driver shift the gear to “Drive” or “Reverse” from “Park.”
Problem is, we conclude that it can be a cause of mechanical or electrical problems (example: pedal misapplication, unresponsive pedals, cruise control failure, diesel engine runaway); while there are recall news about a vehicle, there are also instances that most accidents are related to drivers error.
Last month, we saw a footage video of a SUV crash involving Mitsubishi Montero at the basement parking 4 of St. Luke’s Medical Center in BGC. The way we reviewed the CCTV footage, it looks similar to SUA incident. Until police investigator release a statement that the case was technically a driver’s error.
This morning, we receive an information that a car falls at the multi-level steel parking area of Promenade Greenhills.
According to our source, they’ve heard a loud slammed in front of their establishment. As they went outside, it was a semi-wreck Black Toyota Innova seen on the ground smashed as the vehicle overshoot in the railings on the third floor of the steel parking, causing a huge traffic in the area.
Looking on the picture, it shows how fast the vehicle accelerated towards the barrier, causing the structure to collapsed and hit on the ground.
Our source said that the driver is an old man. He was rushed to the nearby hospital and confirmed that he survived the accident. However, our source mentioned that the old driver were unconscious when they retrieved him on his semi-wrecked Innova.
Five years ago, another white sedan lost control of his vehicle causing him to fall at the multi-level parking building in Annapolis Car Park.
Here’s an Update Report of the incident:
We discover that the driver of the Toyota Innova with plate number AHA 8024 was Teodoro Paraiso Llamanzares, a retired physician and father-in-law of Senator Grace Poe.
According to San Juan Police Station, Llamanzares wears seatbelt the time when he hit and fell on the ground. He sustained bruises and fractured ribs. One witnessed said that they saw Llamanzares vehicle speeding towards the barriers, suspecting him to suffered heart attack.
