China-Brand manufacturer Foton has recently rolled out its latest Blue Energy Euro-4 diesel engine lineup, in compliance with government Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System, and DENR Administrative Order No. 2015-04, which pursues the promotion of cleaner-emission vehicles.
Named under Blue Energy brand, the new engines are specifically engineered and built for Foton Motor by Columbus, an Indiana-based diesel power plant expert Cummins.
The company forged an agreement with Foton Motor in 2006 to form the Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (BFCEC) in China, which produces more than 400,000 engines annually.
According to Foton Motor Philippines President Rommel Sytin, “The company has always been committed to providing exceptional product lines through scientific and technological innovation. Blue Energy is a continued expression of this promise – a product of earnest R&D that serves up a host of benefits such as power, durability, reliability, efficiency, and clean operation.”
The new Foton Cummins ISF 2.8 and 3.8 Euro 4 Engines are designed to deliver lower intake temperature, prevent abnormalities in combustion, and operate more quietly-while providing improved low-end torque pulling power. The heightened performance is complemented with more frugal fuel consumption.
BLUE ENERGY ENGINES
Foton vehicles equipped with Blue Energy engines will have telltale decals to identify them. These include three variants of the popular Tornado light duty truck—the Tornado 2.4C, Tornado 4.4C, Tornado 4.8C and the newly-launched Tornado M4.2C.
Unlike many other trucks, the Tornado M4.2C boasts a full complement of safety technologies and features. WABCO braking technology (anti-lock braking and electronic brake distribution), plus a full air-brake function ensures secure and stable stopping force at all times. A reverse sensor and camera come standard for enhanced aft awareness. Up front is a redesigned panoramic windshield that provides increased visibility, plus an additional passenger-side under mirror for blind-spot coverage. The height of the truck’s headlights can also be adjusted. Three-point ELR seat belts come standard.
Passing the more stringent Euro 4 emission standard, the turbocharged (with intercooler) power plant generates an impressive 600 Nm of torque-ideally suited for confidently moving the 14-footer and its payload. Featuring a computer-controlled Bosch common rail direct injection system, the engine also boasts exhaust gas recirculation technology, DOC (diesel oxidizing catalyst) and POC (particle oxidizing catalyst) for enhanced fuel efficiency and lower emission.
PERFECT TRUCK INTERIOR
The driver and occupant are welcomed with a slew of features that make each journey comfortable, safe, and convenient—while assuring owners of a multi-functional workhorse that is also friendly to those driving it. An advanced LED touchscreen is at the heart of the vehicle’s entertainment system. This accommodates the imaging when reversing and makes Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and music possible. The system is also features an MP5 and SD card slot. Steering wheel buttons for cruise control, and radio and call functions are also available. The multi-info dashboard display is elegantly executed, and a powerful air-conditioning system is a standard feature.
