Largest Express Transportation FedEx and Safe Kids Worldwide Philippines (SKWP) recently announced the 2017 Young Road Safety Champion during the annual celebration of National Safe Kids Week.
In 2004, FedEx and SKWP launched the Young Road Safety Advocate Program where fifth and sixth graders help train younger kids proper pedestrian behavior. Danna Jae Castillo was named Young Road Safety Champion due to her effectiveness as a young educator at Holy Spirit Elementary School.
More than 900 outstanding senior students have mentored 100,000 of their younger peers from public elementary schools in the cities of Manila, Pasay, Parañaque, Quezon, Angeles, and Cebu.
John Peterson, FedEx Express Philippines Managing Director, said, “We at FedEx are committed in creating safer environments within the community. By awarding our Young Road Safety Champion and celebrating National Safe Kids Week, we continue to harness the power of education and empower the youth as partners in our road safety advocacy.”
The event is a yearly celebration which is observed every third week of June under Presidential Proclamation 1307. The National Safe Kids Week advocates awareness on traumatic injuries as the leading causes of death in the Philippines. This year, the celebration also featured an advocacy walk and lectures by government partners such as the Department of Health and Department of Education.
