Chevron Philippines Inc, the marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, is  spreading road safety awareness among students of Makati Elementary School through its “Week of Caring” program.

The WOC program, which is the annual corporate volunteerism program of Chevron, aims to educate grade 5 and 6 students whose parents bring them to school using motorcycles. Studies shows that motorcycle riders has the highest fatality accident with more than 50-percent risk.

Spreading the CPI culture of safety and dedication to fostering safer communities, 34  CPI volunteers participated in the activities especially in the role playing games to make the learning activity more meaningful and fun for the students. The students also received motorcycle helmets to ensure safer travel as part of the application of the program.

Atty. Raisa Bautista, CPI Manager for Policy, Government and Public Affairs, said, “At Chevron, we place such a high value on safety that it has become a real way of life for the employees. Road safety procedures are strictly practiced in the office especially with the Chevron riding technique training. Thus we are so happy to be able to spread this culture of safety to children during the Week of Caring.”

“It is essential that we instill obedience and discipline to the students at their young age because as they grow old, they will bring with them their knowledge on basic road safety procedures.” said Alberto Suansing, Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership Secretary-General.

Week of Caring is a five-day program that advocates volunteerism among its employees and business partners. CPI has been implementing the WOC in the Philippines for the past 9 years.

The WOC is in partnership with Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).
